Behavior on Servers

The following are common reasons
for getting kicked off a server. Of course, the rules of the specific
server you're on take priority over anything written here but these are
good rules of thumb. If you're unsure of what rules a given server uses
please take the time to contact the server administrator. Ask around to
find out who that may be if you don't know. |

This applies to blade
servers only. Laming is basically not following the rules. A typical
lamer (or "llama") will run around and attack everyone on the
server without rhyme or reason. He'll jump into an arena in the middle of
a fight, chase and attack a specific person all
around the map, etc. Few rcon users have much tolerance for lamers and
even fewer server admins do. If you feel the need to run amok try a DM
server or use the designated FFA (Free For All) arena on some blade maps. Ask other
bladers to join you in FFA. |

This is a sure-fire way of getting
kicked off a server. Cheating comes in many forms including speed
cheating, using the 'llama-bot' or other hacked/custom DLLs, et al. Please
don't ask for details on how to use any cheating technique because we
ain't telling. |

For a discussion on what rate is
and acceptable values see our Uncommon
Commands page. You will be asked to lower your rate a few times before
an rcon user may decide to kick you from the server since excessive rates
serve only to slow everyone else down. |

In general you will not be kicked
from a server for using abusive language but every server has its rules
and every rcon user has his or her limits (which may vary day to day).
Typically you will not be kicked for name-calling or excessively cussing,
but libel or other illegal matters are another story. Calling someone an
asshole is usually fine but accusing someone of pedophilia, for example,
isn't. Giving out personal details on another player such as real name,
home address, etc. is also usually no-no. |

This applies to blade
servers only. Throwing fireballs into an arena during a fight is
unfair and annoying as you may affect the outcome of the fight. Similarly
do not start fireballing someone you're trying to get the attention of. Go
stand in front of them and use the game's talk feature if they seem to be
ignoring or missing your messages. Normally this is not a serious offense and
hardly enough to be kicked, but it does annoy people and you
may be asked to stop it. On the other hand running around and trying to
kill other players with fireballs is considered laming
and you will be asked to stop and/or kicked from the server. |

This applies to DeathMatch
servers only. Camping is simply waiting around a specific area -- usually
one with a powerful weapon -- for other players to come looking to equip
themselves and killing them. While technically not breaking the rules many
people find this tactic unsporting. It is actually rare that anyone would
be kicked for camping, but it is possible. Forewarned is forearmed. |

This applies to DeathMatch
servers only. Like camping this is another cheap tactic and may or may not
result in you being kicked from a server. Using the Morph Ovum spell and
then immediately using the Ring of Repulsion on a victim will not only
result in his death but he will also lose a frag (a point or kill) and the
person who cast the spells will not gain one! In effect the only use of
this combination is to annoy other players by taking away their frags.
This is not to say using these spells in this manner is completely
unacceptable, but excessive or exclusive use of them is likely to result
in you being asked to stop and/or removed from the server. |
